Overview
R_C-3450: Writing Center Theory and Practice explores current issues in writing center theory and practice. This course is designed to provide you with a theoretical background in and practical strategies for working as writing consultants in the University Writing Center (UWC). We will explore texts on writing pedagogies and writing center theory and practice in order to gain insight into writing processes and the act of assisting students in one-to-one conferencing.
Assignments
This course has two parts: reading and writing formally about writing center discourse and developing primary research skills by observing and reflecting on consultations in the UWC.
Evaluation
At the end of this course, you will have the opportunity to apply for a position as a writing center consultant for the following academic year; this decision will be made according to ability and comfort level, as demonstrated throughout the course of the semester, and according to the Center's staffing needs.

For writing help, the University Writing Center is a wonderful resource. Conveniently located in the lower level of the library, they take walk-ins or you can make an appointment. If you have a quick question, you can even chat with them online!
