Overview
Rhetoric and Composition 0900 is a developmental course in process writing and a prerequisite to R_C-1000 for those students whose placement scores indicate that they need more experience in writing. If you place into 0900, you must earn an S grade ("Satisfactory") to be eligible for R_C-1000.
Assignments
Rhetoric and Composition 0900 allows you to develop literacy skills that are necessary for college writing. The assignments in this course will help you to find your authority and voice. You will research information for some papers, and you will learn how to report and document your findings. While all freshman composition courses include some assignments using research from other texts and documentation, usually in MLA style, you may also design and write about research using interviews, surveys, and observations. R_C-0900 gives you an opportunity to produce a variety of writing, which may include journal entries, workshop reports, abstracts, prospectuses, and extended essays in small classes with a team of teachers. In short, this course will help you gain experience and familiarity with many writing experiences, and in turn, you will feel confident to proceed on to R_C-1000.
Evaluation
0900 is graded Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory. You will receive three hours of Institutional credit, which count toward full-time status; however, this course does not count toward graduation hours.
A satisfactory evaluation in 0900 will be based on your process work (which may include a variety of activities, including workshop credit, journal writing, rough drafts, reports and class participation) and the portfolio, which shows your process from the entire semester. The portfolio, which will be assessed as the product of the course, will include your choice of your best writing and your portfolio letter.
